About Steven
Stevie’s Walk was founded by the Callanan family and their close friends in honour of Steven Callanan — a much-loved son, brother, partner, mate, and valued member of the community. Born on 1st March 2002, Steven’s life, though far too short, was filled with connection, purpose, and promise. He passed away on 26th March 2023.
Steven grew up in Gladstone Park, attending The Good Shepherd Primary School before continuing his education at Penola Catholic College. It was during these years that his love for sport, particularly football, became a defining part of his life. A natural all-round sportsman, Steven played across all levels within the Essendon District Football League (EDFL) and was selected into the AFL Talent Squad during Years 10 through 12 — a reflection of both his skill and dedication.
Beyond sport, Steven was hardworking and driven. He completed his qualification as a plumber and was building a bright future, taking meaningful steps toward independence, including beginning the journey of purchasing his own home.
Steven shared a close bond with his family and friends and was in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Tori. He also shared a special connection with his sister Charlene, with whom he co-owned their beloved border collie, Mishka — a constant companion and source of joy.

Stevie’s Walk was created to honour Steven’s memory by continuing the sense of community and care that surrounded him. It is a community-led initiative dedicated to supporting young people and their families, with a focus on connection, suicide awareness, and ensuring that support is available when it’s needed most.
Through fundraising, shared experiences, and open conversations, Stevie’s Walk aims to bring people together — to create a space where individuals feel seen, supported, and never alone.
